Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library groups are com­posed of vol­un­teers who sup­port their local library branch­es. Mem­ber­ship is open to all. The mis­sion of the Friends of the Library is to pro­mote inter­est in, use of, and pub­lic sup­port for the DeKalb Coun­ty Pub­lic Library. Friends vol­un­teer their time and resources to help pro­vide high qual­i­ty library ser­vices, books, and mate­ri­als for their com­mu­ni­ty libraries.

Why Join?

Becom­ing a Friend unites you with oth­er sup­port­ers and lovers of your library. A Friends group gives a stronger voice in pro­mot­ing the work and ongo­ing vital­i­ty of each branch. In these days of bud­get cuts, the need is greater than ever for mem­bers of the com­mu­ni­ty to step up and help our libraries. We Need You. Your Library Needs You. To join, vis­it your local library and com­plete a mem­ber­ship form.

What We Do

Friends raise mon­ey through dues and book sales to fund many impor­tant ser­vices at their local library branch­es such as:

• Books and oth­er mate­ri­als for col­lec­tion development
• Sup­port for vaca­tion read­ing program
• Teen book club
• Spon­sor children’s per­form­ers and programs
• Cul­tur­al programs
• Library equip­ment and facil­i­ty improvements

Get Involved

Becom­ing a Friend offers every­one an oppor­tu­ni­ty to give back to the library, which gives so much to your com­mu­ni­ty. To help, you can vol­un­teer your time, donate gen­tly-used books and join your local Friends group. You may vol­un­teer as much or as lit­tle as you want. Vol­un­teer oppor­tu­ni­ties include plan­ning pro­grams, help­ing at book sales, spe­cial events, and library projects. The Alliance of the Friends of the DeKalb Coun­ty Pub­lic Library, Inc. formed a group non­prof­it orga­ni­za­tion in Novem­ber 2010 com­posed of 15 indi­vid­ual branch Friends groups. Its mis­sion is to sup­port, ben­e­fit and assist Friends of the Library groups of the DeKalb Coun­ty Pub­lic Library. The Alliance applied for 501©3 non­prof­it sta­tus in May 2011. The Alliance works togeth­er with Friends to bet­ter our libraries.
