Iconic Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima presents his latest award-winning film Teza, a personal drama set in Ethiopia and Germany which chronicles the return of an African intellectual to his country of birth during the repressive Marxist regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam. This is the inaugural program in the African Films and Filmmakers Series, and begins with a reception and meet and greet at 4:00 p.m., followed by the film screening at 5:00 p.m. A question and answer session with the filmmaker will follow, moderated by Los Angeles-based film programmer and producer Jheanelle Brown. Copies of Mr. Gerima's films will be available for purchase at the event. This event is sponsored by the DeKalb Library Foundation.
