Mike Glenn’s “Expanding Civil Rights: Women of the Movement” Exhibit Comes to Decatur Library

Mike “Stinger” Glenn is a former NBA player and current broadcaster for “Hawks Live,” the pre-game show for the Atlanta Hawks. He is also the collector of thousands of rare books, newspapers and magazines that document African American history and culture. His exhibit “Expanding Civil Rights: with a Focus on Women of the Movement” will be on display at the Decatur Library starting January 4, 2019. The exhibit will focus on women’s roles in the Civil Rights Movement and celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Shirley Chisholm’s historic election to Congress. Mr. Glenn aims to shed light on the significant contributions that women of color made to pave the way for President Obama, Hillary Clinton and others. “It is important to recognize, understand and build upon the foundation of civil and human rights that so many women helped to establish,” Glenn said.  Items in the exhibit include original obituaries, magazine articles, artwork, photographs and first edition books. The exhibit will run through January 24, 2019 during library hours. Funding for the exhibit is sponsored in part by DeKalb Library Foundation, the City of Decatur, Decatur Education Foundation and Friends of the Decatur Library.
