COVID-19 Update: Library Closed Until Further Notice
The Executive Committee of the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees voted to close all branch libraries at the end of regular operating hours on Saturday, March 14, 2020 until further notice as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. DCPL will continue to monitor the situation and update services accordingly.
May 13, 2020 Update: A Message from the Director
I know many of you are wondering when the Library will open back up. I wish I had a definitive answer for you, but I do not. I can tell you that we are working with DeKalb County Leadership, the Library’s Board of Trustees and the DeKalb County Board of Health to come up with a plan for how and when we will reopen and begin serving you in person again. Our guiding principle through this process will be to provide a safe working environment for library staff and a safe library experience for you. I think the only thing we do know, is that it will look very different than it did when we closed on March 14. We will need your support and patience as we navigate this together.
In the meantime, library staff have been working hard to shift focus to a virtual environment so that we can continue to serve you in some capacity. For instance, we have:
Made it easier to get a library card online for quick access to all our digital resources such as OverDrive, RB Digitial, PressReader and more.
Suspended fines on all materials you may currently have checked out. We will continue to adjust due dates on all items so that you will not be penalized for any late fees when we reopen and are ready to receive materials back.
Increased the number of checkouts you can have from OverDrive, our main eBook resource.
Added lots of virtual programming for both children and adults on our social media channels, such as Facebook and Instagram and through other video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Google Hangouts.
We are continuing to answer phone inquiries for those of you who need additional help or have other questions. Call 404-508-7190, press zero and leave a message.
Please continue to check our website for updates – as we finalize plans, they will be posted there.
Keep reading and stay safe!
March 20, 2020 Update:
Staff will be available by phone at 404-508-7190, Monday thru Friday 10 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m. and can help with questions about library accounts and accessing our online resources.
Temporary Digital Library cards do not have access to OverDrive. To gain access, send an email here.
March 16, 2020 Update:
Book drops: All DeKalb County Public Library branches and book returns are closed until further notice. PLEASE KEEP ALL ITEMS YOU HAVE CHECKED OUT UNTIL THE LIBRARY REOPENS.
Overdue Fines: The Library will not be charging late fees during this time period.
Saturday, March 14 will be the last day that patrons can pick up materials on hold or borrow physical items from branches until the Library reopens. If you have physical materials currently checked out, we will be making adjustments to due dates so that you will not be penalized with fines. We will adjust the hold expiration date of any item not picked up by Saturday to maintain your place in the queue.
Even though our branches will be closed, DCPL will continue to provide a wide variety of digital services that can be accessed from our website. These do require a library card and PIN, but can be used anywhere, anytime.
If you do not have a library card, you can apply for a temporary digital library card that allows you to use our online materials. You can do this if you’ve misplaced or are unable to use your current library card. Click here for instructions.
If you have a card, but forgot your PIN, you can go to the My Account page and click the "Forgot your pin?" link.
