In January 2010, the Darro C. Willey Literacy Program Endowment was established with a matching challenge grant from the Betty and Davis Fitzgerald Foundation. This endowment provides permanent support for DeKalb County Public Library’s literacy programs which have been in existence more than twelve years. An investment in literacy is an investment in the future of DeKalb County.
Books and Materials
The DeKalb County Public Library’s books and materials budget from DeKalb County has been significantly affected by the economy over the past several years reducing the number of replacement books and new books the Library can acquire each year. The DeKalb Library Foundation provides assistance to supplement the books and materials budget. Funding is allocated each year through unrestricted gifts as well as direct library branch donations and recognition gifts in honor, memory or celebration of friends or loved ones.
