Library Launches Major Literacy Program Aimed at Babies and Toddlers

DeKalb County Public Library and the DeKalb Library Foundation are launching a major program initiative this spring aimed at helping parents "build their babies’ brains" by supporting and encouraging them to read early and often with their young children. The program, called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, begins with two special kick-off events in late April where parents will be encouraged to participate.

Any family who uses DeKalb County library branches can take part in the program. The Library also plans to make special outreach efforts to families in underserved areas to get them involved as well.

Clarkston Library Part of Project to Make City of Clarkston a “City of Daffodils”

Daffodils bloomed at the Clarkston Library this spring with a special purpose far beyond just making the library building and grounds look pretty. The flowers were planted as part of “The Daffodil Project” of Am Yisrael Chai, a Holocaust education and awareness organization. The organization’s goal is to plant 1.5 million daffodils worldwide in memory of the 1.5 million children who died in the Holocaust during World War II and in support of children suffering in the world today because of humanitarian crises.
